From: Shorinji Kempo Silicon Valley Branch Founder’s Day Charity Committee

Shorinji Kempo Founder's Day Charity Report

Thank you for your participation in Shorinji Kempo Founder’s Day Charity BBQ.

We are glad to have such an enjoyable party in cool weather in spite that the participants were less than usual of total 78 people.

We appreciate volunteers’ help to make this event successful.

“Founder’s Day” started in 1995 as anniversary of death of Shorinji Kempo Founder, “Doshin So” to enforce his phrase of "Half for one's own happiness, and half for the happiness of others," ("nakaba wa jiko no shiawase wo, nakabaha hito no shiawase wo") through charities. Currently, it’s called “Month of Founder’s Day” and each branch picks one day in May to give students opportunity to contribute to the peace of the society through charities.

In Silicon Valley Branch, we hold charity BBQ party as Founder’s Day event and donate part of the collected BBQ fee through UNICEF.
In this year, we donate $300 from reward of Chicken Festival volunteers and demonstration at San Jose Japan Town Festival, donation from UC Santa Cruz students and balance forwarded from last year because we could not collect enough money for donation from the BBQ.

We hope that more people can contribute to Founder’s Day Charity next year by preparing and participating the BBQ Event.
