CY2009 Founder’s Day Charity Report

Thank you for your participation in Founder’s Day Charity BBQ Party. Although we postponed it from May 2 to May 17 due to rainy weather, we finally had sunny and pretty hot weather which is perfect for BBQ Party on May 17.

“Founder’s Day” started in 1995 as anniversary of death of Shorinji Kempo Founder, “Doshin So” to enforce his phrase of "Half for one's own happiness, and half for the happiness of others," ("nakaba wa jiko no shiawase wo, nakabaha hito no shiawase wo") through charities. Currently, it’s called “Month of Founder’s Day” and each branch picks one day in May to give students opportunity to contribute to the peace of the society through charities.

At Silicon Valley Branch, we had the following 3 charity activities in this year.

  1. Donate money collected from parents as reward of your help to charity organization.

  2. Collect recycling cans (aluminum) and plastic bottles and donate the money to charity organization.

  3. Donate left over money collected for the BBQ Party to charity Organization

We will donate total $350 to UNICEF from the 3 charity activities combined with $100 from Temple as reward of our volunteer at Chicken Bazaar of May 2.

Thank you for your cooperation on Founder’s Day Charity Activities.

Sincerely,

Shorinji Kempo Founder’s Day Charity Committee
